ADAGE
Adopt Competitive Purchasing
———-
RESPONSE
Avoid becoming dependent on a single source for anything where you have no readily available substitute. You are otherwise putting your fate in the hands of others. They will look after their interests, not yours. When you are a buyer, you want vendors competing with each other. Keep them competing as far into the acquisition process as possible. Keep it up until you have completed negotiations with the selected vendor. The only One we solely rely upon is God. Our vendors and suppliers constantly change internally and externally, so keeping them competing for your dollars is good stewardship of God’s resources. For critical parts and components, consider seeking long-term partnerships with simpatico suppliers that you trust. Your standard should resemble a traditional hard-fought, fairly won high school football game between crosstown rivals.
SCRIPTURE
Jeremiah 17:5 This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord.”
